Beyond Gravity Sweden delivers Payload Adapter System for the second Ariane 6 flight
Beyond Gravity, the leading supplier of satellite separation systems, is part of the second launch of the European launcher Ariane 6, supplying the Payload Adapter System to ArianeGroup. Beyond Gravity is Sweden's largest industrial space company and has recently opened a new production facility in Linköping.
On 6 March 2025, an Ariane 6 rocket from the European rocket manufacturer ArianeGroup launched for the second time. The rocket carried the CSO-3 satellite, which was connected to the rocket by Beyond Gravity's Payload Adapter System. The Payload Adapter System is manufactured at the Swedish site in Linköping, where a new production facility was opened in the summer of 2024. The facility is equipped with the latest technology to manufacture satellite dispenser systems in a partially automated series production process. Currently in the ramp-up phase, it is set to reach full production output in the first half of 2025. In parallel, Beyond Gravity is implementing changes to its business processes and digital infrastructure to establish a unified digital core that will seamlessly connect its global locations. This will enable more streamlined, efficient production processes and optimized resource allocation.
World leading supplier for Payload Adapter Systems
Beyond Gravity is the leading provider of satellite separation systems for launch vehicles, with a 100% track record of successfully separating over 1270 payloads in space. Their satellite separation systems ensure secure connections between launch vehicles and their payloads, facilitating precise delivery into orbit. The satellite is placed on our payload adapter, which connects the satellite with the launch vehicle. When the launch vehicle reaches the correct altitude, our separation system separates the satellite from the rocket.
“Beyond Gravity Sweden is very proud to be part of the second Ariane 6 flight. Our customer, ArianeGroup, relies on our technology and mission success. Once again, we want to ensure that the satellite is placed in orbit without any problems. We are very pleased that a piece of Sweden flew into space on Ariane 6 thanks to our Payload Adapter System for this European project,” says Ulrik Thelin, Vice President Launchers Sweden.
Reliable partner for Ariane Group
As a reliable partner of the customer ArianeGroup, Beyond Gravity was involved in the second flight of the Ariane 6 rocket with various components. The international aerospace company supplied, next to the payload adapter system, the payload fairing manufactured in Emmen, Switzerland, which protects the payload (satellite) from external influences during the flight into orbit. In Vienna, Austria, high-temperature insulation was manufactured for the rocket engine of the lower stage of the launch vehicle.
Ariane 6 Europe’s next generation launch vehicle
Ariane 6, a program of the European Space Agency (ESA), is a family of launchers designed to offer maximum flexibility to customers in the institutional and commercial markets. Due to its large volume under the payload fairing, Ariane 6 can perform classic single or dual launches as well as complex missions that meet new market requirements, such as launching satellites with electric propulsion or multiple launches of constellation satellites. The launcher is available in two versions, depending on the mission: The Ariane 64 with four boosters can carry more than 12 tons into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) with a dual launch. The Ariane 62 with two boosters can carry more than 4.5 tons of payload into GTO or seven tons into sun-synchronous orbit (SSO).
